Alan Alda interview
The A.V. Club interviewed Alan Alda and he mentioned Marty and working on THE AVIATOR. Enjoy.

just read that, pretty good interview. off topic, a buddy of mine drove alan alda once and said he was the biggest ass he'd ever dealt with. didn't tip at all.

Thanks, John... and a belated welcome to the board. Welcome exreckid, too. Nice to see you here. FX screened The Aviator last night and cut out scenes left and right. No intro to Odie, thus no origin of the Racer from biplane to monoplane. No cigarette girl, no Howard finding sticky stuff on his fingers in the projector room, no Howard bellowing orders after the Hell's Angel's screening, no shot of Howard and Jean inside the limo, no Jean speaking to the radio announcer, no fight at the Cocoanut Grove with Flynn, no scene with Howard and Odie actually looking at the blueprints in the Hercules hangar, no Trippe conceding defeat after the hearings... and on and on.

How could you bare to keep on watching? Is this FX network cable? They should have some clause on the contracts for these things. :? No cuts, no censorship, no commercials. Hi, exreckid :)

How could you bare to keep on watching? Is this FX network cable?Yep, that's the one. I'm a compulsive kvetcher, so FX is my enabler.:P I also caught a bit of Cape Fear on AMC last week. It still amazes me how "Kick a knot in his butt" is deemed safe for broadcast while the original's "Jerk a knot in his tail" (Mitchum's line) isn't.

Like Will I was thinking, how could you keep watching? But then with so much cut out you can't have watched it for long? Hi John & exreckid glad you decided to join us and thanks for the Alda interview. :D

Lou- 09-02-2007

? What is FX ??? A Tv channel that cut scenes of films ?, pardon my ignorance but... It's so surprising because I don't, can't see any scene in TA that could be cut or censored. I'm probably not getting an exact general idea of what you were talking about sorry, Thanks JohnM for the Alda words...

arnzilla- 09-02-2007

Lou, this is FX. Though most of the cuts were there to make room for adverts, FX did manage to provide a "smooth" makeover for Leo's rear-end.

JohnN- 09-03-2007

Thanks for the warm welcome. Leela and Arnzilla, it's great posting with you guys again. Lou, great to meet you.

Alan Alda
I don't get around much anymore so thanks for the AA interview JohnN. About a month ago I read AA's first autobiography so it's serendipity that I dropped in here today and read your post. I read three books in a row that were written by men who had mothers with depressive conditions and AA's was one. I'm trying to break that habit by reading one by a child soldier from Sierra Leone. AA is an interesting man so I'll follow up with his next bio. I have an old LP/vinyl of his father featuring in Guys and Dolls. His Dad had a much more aesthic nose but don't tell Alan I said that. BTW - HB arnzilla. You missed my birthday so I missed your's. Fair? But CHEERS!
