Another Honor for Scorsese Congratulations!
At a meeting of the Council on Saturday, April 22, 2006, 175 new Fellows and 20 new Foreign Honorary Members were elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (see attached list). Letters informing them of their election were sent by fedex this afternoon for a Monday delivery.
The Academy's great strength lies in the intellectual leadership of its members and the wide range of expertise they bring to our work. Members are selected through a highly competitive process that recognizes individuals who have made preeminent contributions to their disciplines and to society at large. We look forward to greeting our new members at an Induction Ceremony in Cambridge on October 7, 2006
** My comments: Scorsese's on the list in the category of Visual and Performing Arts - Criticism and Practice (including Art, Architecture, Sculpture, Music, Theatre, Film, Dance) (also Alan Alda).
Also, in the category of literature one of my favorite authors, Philip Lopate.
