What a find. Thanks very much Departed!:D:D

Peanut80- 09-22-2006

Will That was my thought about poor lighting in that scene as well to hide Nicholson's age... But at same time...I..also....felt the same thing Arnz did ...the idea of the darkness = the devil... being shrouded in darkness.....not allowing the humans to see him in his 'real light'

Thanks departed for the clip. Great find :D

Peanut, then they're combining the practical with the artistic. Although, now that I'm thinking about it... it wouldn't be too difficult to make Nicholson look the right age for those early scenes, as there's a difference of only 14 years. Have we heard anything about how old Costello is supposed to be in the "present"? I'd say Nicholson's age, at least.

leela- 09-22-2006

Thanks Departed Great featurette :D In that scene Costello reminded me of Paul Muni in Scarface. When we see him for the first time its in silhouette.

Peanut80- 09-22-2006

Will Yes..I would say that Nicholson's Costello is also meant to be around 70 Leela Yes...agree about Paul Muni Also reminded me of the Dracula movies..as surely Costlelo 'drains the blood out of people' literally ..as well as..figuratively ! :)

Lou- 09-22-2006

Departed : Excellent catch ! Have to play that again... Thanks...

Thanks much departed. Wonder if this is the HBO First look piece - your featurette looks similar in style to those previous HBO peices I've seen with other films.

Peanut Comparing Costello in that early scene to later ones he has more hair and it's dark brown whereas later (the real Jack) has more receeding hairline and is grey. Though like the famous Count he's really ageless I also noticed in one of the clips that Queenan asks Billy to "do it for me" using whatever bond of loyalty exists between the two men to draw him into life as a mole. In this feature Damon mentions how his loyalty to Costello is responsible for drawing him into becoming a mole within the police force. I also wanted to ask you is the house Billy leaves to get into the car with Mr French the cousin's triple decker house that you saw in Boston?

Peanut80- 09-22-2006

Leela Yes... as I mentioned in earlier post Queenan ask Billy to 'do it for me' at end of clip where they first ask Billy to take the undercover assignment....which to me infers to to the viewer that there is 'past history' between Queenan /Costigan...one that might be revealed in flasback academy scenes... As to this question below I also wanted to ask you is the house Billy leaves to get into the car with Mr French the cousin's triple decker house that you saw in Boston? No...those scenes were filmed near Edwards Middle School on Walker Street in Charleston...thus the reason why you see the school kids in uniform nearby.... Those are the scenes that Jcate saw filmed... Below is her photo of that same house that we see DiCaprio walking out of and then getting into car with Mr French http://jcate.myphotoalbum.com/...set_albumName=album01&id=100_2059_JPG And he response to my question if scene was filmed at Edward Middle School in Charleston Yes, this scene was near the Middle School in Charleston. Ray Winstone was distracting the children with cherry bombs, while Leo was in the apartment . The cherry bombs were used to cover up "gun shots." Leo would then come walking out of the apartment, and then get into the car and pretend to speed away.

leela- 09-23-2006

Thanks Peanut I think my I'd swithchd the two scenes in my mind. I should've noticed the flag  BTW what are cherry bombs? Are they like bangers (a kind of firework that just makes a loud noise)?

Mario- 09-23-2006

Hi Everyone, Just came by here to check out al the new updates and came across this post and read all the replies. Just to "inform" Leela, yes, Cherry Bombs are Bangers. L8ts, Mario (Pronounced: Mary-O) LOL

yapi- 09-23-2006

I didn't know where to put that (and i didn't know if you already put the link) but I found that in youtube from themovieguy.com, it's an interview of dicaprio...apparently the guy who did the interview enjoyed the movie and dicaprio's performance http://youtube.com/watch?v=ESORicV4Dto

lena- 09-23-2006

thanks yapi - will go take a look now.

will- 09-23-2006

Thanks, yapi! That was a nice, relaxed interview... :) A bit of a Nicholson imitation from Leo at one moment, too.
