Thanks for the Scorsese interview. I agree he looked very tired and tense at the beginning but he soon warmed to the subject!
I did pick up on the Melville reference to Le Dolous. That's very interesting because the "hero" played by Jean Paul Belmondo is an ambiguous character. It's impossible to tell if he is hero or villain. For the first two thirds of the film he seems more of a bad guy. He's shown tying up, abusing and humiliating his friend's girlfriend in a pretty disgusting way. It's only revealed later that she was the traitor and he needed to do that to save his friend. Unfortunately this information arrives too late and believing he is the traitor both are betrayed and killed.
I think the difference here is that Scorsese's much more interested in the characters. Melville is very "rigourous" he simply presents his characters. He doesn't like them to show emotion on screen and prefers to keep us all guessing about what they are thinking or feeling. It does make the films very different stylistically and they can seem cold and uninvolving but I like them because they are so mysterious.
Thanks for all the other links posted. It's gonna take a while to get through all those :D

Here's another interview with Farmiga, in which she also confirms what we saw on her business card; Madolyn's full name is: Madolyn Maddon.

Did you left-click on the above link and then tried saving it? If so, you need to right-click directly on the above link and choose "save as..." from the menu that appears.

Video Thank you to Marcie - this is a video clip download of the recent BIOGRAPHY channel on Leonardo that was shown a few days ago. I thought since there are people who visit here who are unfamiliar with Leonardo's career this is a great clip to watch after having maybe their interest piqued after seeing The Departed - and also for the Leonardo fans as there are quite a few clips which I have never seen before and I think I've seen pretty much almost everything there is to see. People who have worked with him such as Depp, Walhberg, Winslet, DeNiro, Maguire, Barkin speak as well as Pete Hammond, a film historian. It mentions The Aviator and The Departed, his last two films so it is pretty up to date and focuses on hi film career.http://www.box.net/public/np1rqr8qbu

someone at the premiere in Paris filmed this ...farmiga, dicaprio and scorsese went on stage...
this cut abruptly at the end so we don't hear scorsese but hell the standing ovation for marty said it all.

by the way, people I know, on a french board, who were on that Paris premiere, loved very much the movie.

apparently they were introduced before the movie. After that the movie started and they left quietly.
I plan to see it when it will be officially release in France : November 29, 2006 ;)
