Blood Diamond trailer

So I don't fault Zwick for being all for "whitey". That's a lot of B.S. as far as I'm concerned. I think Djimon Hounsou will come through loud and clear in Diamond, so I'm not concerned with that aspect at all. I agree with you completely josephc. Well said and you make excellent points about Zwick's portrayal of the characters in the films you mention. I liked The Last Samauri very much. And can't wait for BD. As for the conflict diamonds being well known, I don't think that issue is familiar to that many people. And the diamond industry sure is worried about BD's release. So much so that they've taken out full page ads to try to state their case in hopes the movie won't cut into holiday gift buying! They even asked Zwick to change the film a bt and he refused. Thanks for the Stephen Collins comments, yapi. I read them a few days ago too. As for comparing Leo to Holden... there was someone who saw one of the early screenings and compared Leo's performance in BD to a "young Bogart" 8) And thanks will for the BD trailer with TD news. Why cant Wells mention the director by name? "I think this is Leo's year," a director said to me yesterday. He was referring to a generally presumed one-two combo from Leonardo DiCaprio's performances in Martin Scorsese's The Departed and Ed Zwick's Blood Diamond. The latter has everyone's attention because Leo has nailed his South African accent quite well, to judge from what people are hearing in the trailer. I'm developing this nob of an idea, however, that Djimon Honsou may be formidable also in that film. My information comes from an interested party so there's nothing to consider all that heavily. And like I said before, The Last Samurai and Legends of the Fall are reason enough to instill caution when approaching a new Ed Zwick movie. And...I could say something but I won't. HA!!! Wells is developing this nob of an idea because several -*test*-('") screening reviews have pointed out that Hounsou's story in the film is the more emotionally engrossing -- HE IS, after all, playing a father who's lost his family and son to the horrible conflicts played out in the film. Wells is such a snark. He's a terrible cynic and not someone who likes to stick his neck out much on anything. Guess that's what living in Hollywood does to you, though.

You don't hafta look very far to see that there's LOTS of people (& not just people living in Hollywood) who are cynical & never stick their neck out for anything or anyone.

Wells IS a snark. One moment he's bleating that Leo's hair style is wrong for his face shape, etc. or saying who cares about the Blood Diamonbd and next moment he's praising him and pumping him up for the Oscar race (Wells now has LD in the Best Actor category). I think he goes with the flow of what he thinks will get himself the most agreement...at the time.
