BD trailer and pix
Abstract and yapi, Big thanks! Love the look of that new trailer and those pix are amazing! Great to have both at once...much appreciated. Definitely the next film I'll be looking forward to after I see TD omorrow. A friend who manages a theater told me today she just got the teaser poster for BD. She describes it as... a pic of a diamond with blood dripping -black background and cast name across the top- the botom has "opening december 15" I hope to see it soon.

Sky, is this the poster of which you were describing? http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/imageserver.x/00000000/dfknklk/BLOODDIAMOND.jpg

That's the BD Teaser
Hi u4ik! 8) Yes, that's the BD teaser poster I'm describing. Thanks for posting it here. Fun to see the BD trailer with TD this weekend. It looks very powerful and amazing on the big screen. I'm looking forward to it at the end of the year, but after seeing it twice this weekend, I'm still very much in a Departed mode now!

I dunno. That teaser poster looks a bit goth IMO. A little like it's promoting a new horror flick (although the subject of the film is indeed rather horrific, but in a more real, politically upsetting kind of way) But I just don't think this poster conveys the right image. It's too simple and dark.

I don't know how it works in US but I want to ask you : do you think many people read the reviews from pro critics before seeing a movie and that they care about those reviews ? or do you think it's more about the publicity (marketing, media exposure) and the WOM ? I asked this question because : -apparently Blood diamond mostly pleased people in the screenings (from what I read) -the movie will have publicity 'thanks to' the diamond industry (they'll try to defend themself and all). And that publicity could be a double-edge sword if people care about the reviews. I mean it could be a bomb or a very good success. -the movie is about an important subject and it will be harsh if people snub it because pro critics reviews could be repulsed (like josephc is afraid of) by Zwick heavy handedness while they could like it (and will be informed) like the people in the screenings.

I think a lot of people do get swayed by critics unfortunately. But I think if it's something they wanna see and it's promoted enough, they'll go see it regardless of the critics' opinion.

I didn't realise it at first but apparently the MPAA approved it for "all audiences" ;) I guess they think the violence in the movie is necessary to teach things to all people.

lena- 10-13-2006

Looking at the trailer, it doesn't look like the violence depicted is the gratuitous, over the top, blood and gore type of violence - its the type of violence reflected in any TV news broadcast. I am happy if this film gets a PG-13 rating - feel its an important topic that should be seen by as wide an audience as possible.

yapi- 10-13-2006

oh I think I made another mistake. (arg damn my bad english) at the beginning of the trailer it's says "the following PREVIEW has been approved for all audiences" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyvCDIvGNjA So it was maybe the trailer which was rated "All audiences" not the movie :D

Michael Sheen about Blood diamond http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_movies_blog/2006/10/pr_war_over_blo.html This Leo DiCaprio Oscar season thriller about the African trade in "conflict diamonds" has had the diamond monopolists all atwitter for months. They've set up websites. All to get "their side" of the bloodstained stones story out. And those who seek to expose the dirty little secrets of the trade set up their own. And so on. It's been going on for ages. The fight over the movie, AND the fight over conflict diamonds (diamonds purchased from warlords and others caught up in Africa's various civil wars). Michael Sheen, who plays Tony Blair in The Queen, is also in Blood Diamond. He plays the Brit-dealer who sets the diamond purchase plot in motion, says "It's not often you can be in something that has the chance to change something awful in the world, and the more attention we draw to this part of the diamond trade, the more awareness people have, the better it'll be." Look for Blood Diamond in Dec., no matter what DeBeers says.
