Thanks, joke!!

Peanut80- 03-23-2008

Joke Great work "Sherlock Joke" :) Speaking of Hitler/Aryan women...interesting that Teddy has Aryan features =blonde hair ...blue eyes...=maybe he has ALSO been CHOSEN

will- 03-23-2008

Peanut, do we know Teddy is blond? Also, since we're looking at the art in the commandant's office, the owner of this German propaganda site says that the poster on the wall behind the desk did indeed exist... probably dating back to 1933.

Peanut80- 03-23-2008

Will Teddy happen to be driving down my block the other day and I took a photo of him...as you can see he has 'sandy blonde hair'

Lou- 03-25-2008

Blond hair and that re-reading painting in green proud uniform ! Wowww... :/) we're exploring the caves of recent painful history... That's really interesting... First time I think I see a Nazy interpretation of a mytological legend (Paris)... (though I know they have made numerous re-paintings, re-lectures of ancient myths, wether they're are greek or roman). I could say that it's interesting to have them in the set of a film like that talking about those "special places" that were asylums of those days... but in the same time I can't help thinking that it's "too much"... and linking nazi's "work" to the work done by some "mental" physicians of those times s really ... borderline... Ok, It's in the script... a "noir" script... so Lou, keep it quiet... That's cinema.. I can figure that but... I don't like when cinema goes into cliches... You know easy short cuts...

Lou, The nazi painting is in the commandant's office set, so at the Dachau concentration camp, not at the Ashecliffe institution. It kind of makes sense that they would have a "nazi approved" painting there, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a connection between the nazi practices and the practices in the institution.

Also, since we're looking at the art in the commandant's office, the owner of this German propaganda site says that the poster on the wall behind the desk did indeed exist... probably dating back to 1933. The specific poster is now on his site, third one from the top.

Great work, Joke & Will. So no crew cut for Teddy, Peanut?

Peanut80- 03-27-2008

Arnz In the recent pix from this past weekend in Hong Kong you can see DiCaprio has his hair styled a bit more like modern styles in first photo below But if you look at side angle of his hair... and brush the sides up you can see without the gel it is a crew cut at top... So the top of his hair is definitely SHORTER than the picture above.. http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/2961/leonardodicapriohsbc13fn1.jpg If the hair is brushed up on sides ..it to me looks 'crew like' :) http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/919/leonardodicapriohsbc15ap3.jpg

Joke Thanks for the interior shots, the plasterwork on that ceiling is very impressive. Cawley's set up at Ashcliffe must be a very well funded affair :D Excellent job on identifying the painting too  WillThanks for the link to the poster site. The poster in your example seemed rather ambiguious. I couldn'y decide if he was trying to open the doors -to the Nazi's or to prevent himself being imprisoned by them. It has a kind of German Expressionistic look- of the kind the Nazi's hated and tried to destroy

will- 03-29-2008

Peanut, thanks for the photos. :) Leela, Yes, if one wanted to, they could interpret the specific poster as showing someone trying to shut the doors before a red incoming menace enters his home. I have to say, though, that the layout of the commandant's office (and particularly this photo of it) is very similar to how I had imagined Cawley's office in the lighthouse. A nearly empty room with plenty of daylight. With Cawley sitting behind a plain desk with a small window right behind him. And with a chair with a recorder on top, at the corner.

Peanut80- 03-29-2008

Will Gee..I envisioned office in the lighthouse to be very small...sparse ...round in shape....dark foreboding....no windows=no avenue of escape.

will- 03-29-2008

Peanut, There will be at least a window, I think, in the lighthouse room. In the novel, it says that Teddy could see the ocean through the window behind Cawley, that he could feel the breeze from the ocean and that he was placing his hands over his eyes to block out the light.

What does this photo look like to you? (It's from a video of Scorsese promoting Shine a Light on his new MySpace page (!) :D ) One more: I think this is the same wood paneling work on the wall.

What does this photo look like to you? (It's from a video of Scorsese promoting Shine a Light on his new MySpace page (!) :D ) Will It's stirs my distant memories- of watching Hitchcock's Half Hour on the TV, in black and white of course
