Joke : Thanks for re-precising that the painting appears during the Dachau scenes and is not related particularly to Ashecliffe. I probably missed something in the discussion of the different scenes. Will, thanks for additional info about that also.
But well... whereever it appears in the movie, it's not an "innocent" symbol used by Scorsese & al.
and That makes me think... it's kind of weird...
a few days ago, while I was searching the Web trying to find some good relevant images to illustrate a blog I'm trying to make about "Movies and Mental Health" , I came across that scene, that I watched decades ago and have kept in mind since, (directed by A. Litvak, 1967, "Night of the Generals" starring Peter O'Toole as General Tanz...) mixing Nazi times + mental illness + paintings + ... a thriller...

All right : just a scene that I like. "Light !"

From the Taunton Call, here's another photo of the commandant's office (taken by Taunton Mayor Charles Crowley) on a "a set erected in the interior of the Whittenton Mill. At first glance it looks like an ordinary office until you notice there’s a portrait of Adolph Hitler on the wall behind the desk.
Several of Crowley’s photos pull back the curtain on the making of the movie. One shows an elaborate archway with a green screen below, like the blue screens behind television meteorologists that are later filled with images of the weather maps they only appear to be standing in front of on air.
In this case, computer graphics allowed the makers of 'Ashecliffe' to swap a view of an anachronistic parking lot with appropriate scenes from a prison camp, Crowley said."

Thanks for new photo. :)
Do you think this office was used for scene in screenplay with German officer who kills himself rather then be taken prison ?
will- 04-30-2008
Thanks, arnzilla. I imagine when seen in the film, it won't look this tidy.
arnzilla- 05-01-2008
Yep, it'll be decorated with gore and stationery.

Any ideas why they might be building a dungeon?
arnzilla- 05-06-2008
Might that be a mausoleum and not a dungeon?
will- 05-07-2008
It does look grey and square from the outside, but not tiny and marble-y inside -- as the mausoleum is described in the script.
will- 05-08-2008
It must be the "fort" that is used for Ward C, after all.

The prison manages to look exactly as I pictured it.

Thanks for new Teddy apt pix.... :)
It seems as we discussed that they built 'apt soundstages' at warehouse in Hyde Park rather than use a real house setting as Scorsese did in Savan Hiill for "TD"
Wonder if we will even seen 'exterior' shot of apt ???
