Michelle Williams cast as Dolores
From Variety Michelle doesn't fit my 'physical perception' of Dolores...but I do think she is an excellent actress ..so looking forward to seeing her opposite DiCaprio... Michelle Williams is poised to join "Shutter Island," playing the wife of U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) in the Martin Scorsese-directed drama for Paramount Pictures. Williams is in talks to join DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley in the film, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Dennis Lehane. Laeta Kalogridis wrote the script, and Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and Scorsese will produce. The drama revolves around the trip made by Daniels to Shutter Island in 1954 to figure out how a multiple murderess escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane on the remote island. He is grieving the recent death of his wife, who was killed in a fire by one of the inhabitants of the facility. Williams just opened in the ensemble of the Todd Haynes-directed Bob Dylan biopic "I'm Not There." She will next be seen starring with Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman in the Marcel Langenegger-directed drama "The Tourist" and the Charlie Kaufman-directed "Synedoche, N.Y." She will juggle the role in "Shutter Island" with "Mammoth," starring with Gael Garcia Bernal in the Lukas Moodysson-directed "Mammoth."

Thanks, peanut! She's quite good. I'm glad she got the part. With her hair in a darker color, she might look a lot different than she does usually.

Will Yes..as I said above....think Michelle is talented...and as far as her 'look'... as we know many who see the movie will have never read the book so won't be aware of any book descriptions of the characters be it Dolores or Cawley.

Once again I LOVE it!!! This is honestly the first time I have been so happ with the casting of a film.

So, Williams is the third actor so far, who hasn't appeared in a Scorsese film before. Maybe we'll see a more familiar face soon... For Naehring, perhaps?

Hello ! Ciao ! :D Thank you Peanut for the Updates of the cast, i liked her in " Brokeback Mountain" but i know her work only from this MOvie Her last work was " I am not there " am i making sense ?

Peanut80- 12-06-2007

Will Well I guess the next 'big role in size' would be either Rachel or Trey....then Neahring ..right ?

will- 12-06-2007

I think McPherson might be bigger than Naehring. And The Warden perhaps.

Peanut80- 12-06-2007

Will Oh..okay...so ... our parts left to cast are =Warden/McPhearson/ Rachel/Trey But do you think these will be parts that the announcement of WHO got the part will appear at Variety or elsewhere ?

will- 12-06-2007

They might not be as well-known as the others already cast, but usually any attachment or casting bit is announced. They might announce 2 or 3 of them together. And here's the Hollywood Reporter article, saying basically the same things.

Peanut...Thank u for this news. I absolutely love this girl. She`s not only extremely talented, but she`s an amazing person too. (I know what i`m talking about) I`ve seen her in 10 films. And of course in Dawson`s Creek. Land Of Plenty (2004) is her best performance of her career. (IMO) Actually, in "My Oscars" of that year i named her "Best Actress". And she has a funny "connection" with Leo. If u`re interested i can mention it.

Ava- 12-07-2007

I'm interested. :)

Shynney- 12-07-2007

Thanks for the news Peanut. Really like this casting too. She is a unique actress I think who can portray a great depth of feeling and also maybe what is needed for this part. Would love to see her act with Leo, don't think she ever gives a bad performance. What is the connection Nas?

Lou- 12-07-2007

Surprise, surprise ! Thanks Peanut. She was excellent in the only film I saw her in, Brokeback Mountain so... why not ?

arnzilla- 12-07-2007

We crapped out on that one. Voluptuous to be sure, but Olivia Williams is hotter.8) Michelle won the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actress for Brokeback Mountain.
