Yes...we were all thinking of 'dark haired' women who were talented and who we thought would have good chemistry with DiCaprio....
Probably if we were just thinking of 'talented young actresses' in general we would have had Michelle on our list

Miramax Films' 90 million dollar epic, "Gangs of New York" is getting an international flavor. Joining stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Willem Dafoe in the Martin Scorsese helmed project will be Katie Holmes in the pivotal role of Jenny and veteran British character actor Stuart Wilson as Boss Tweed.
"I'm one of Ms. Holmes' biggest fans," Scorsese told PNS. "Her talent runs deep and the camera loves her. I can't imagine living without my weekly 'Dawson's Creek' fix. I'm totally hooked and watch the show religiously," he added. Scorsese also recalled that her screen -*test*-('") with DiCaprio was "phenomenal."
In the role of DiCaprio's father, Irish thespian Daniel Day Lewis has signed on for what is essentially a cameo. "He's in only one scene," Scorsese told us. "A flashback, but a key one nonetheless that gives us insight into Leo's character."

Shame, it doesn't explain this casting decision then :?
I'm not familiar with her work apart from seeing Brokeback Mountain so I'll have to keep an open mind.

From WENN:Michelle is grateful to Martin Scorsese who is directing her in her la-*test*-('") film 'Shutter Island.' She wasn't due to be at Cannes this year as they are still filming. Luckily for Michelle: "He was sweet enough to let me come here and enjoy it."

She looks very pretty, I'm very glad she was cast as Dolores and I can't wait to see her work in the film.

Thanks Arnzilla
Michelle looks very different now from her Brokeback role which is the last time I saw her in a movie.
Is this her Dolores look? I thought Dolores was dark haired? :?
arnzilla- 05-29-2008
Michelle's eyebrows do seem to be dark, so perhaps a wig will be used. According to Teddy's recollections in the novel, Rachel and Dolores have similar hair and lips, and Rachel's is definitely dark. Teddy also mentions Dolores' dark pubic hair (though in the version I have, it says "public hair").

Cosmetic, hair-making discussion ?
Michelle was in Cannes to present... gee... terrible to pronounce... "SYNECDOCHE, New York" first film directed by Charlie Kaufman
I vote for the wig... (what means "public hair" btw ? Blond ?)
