"Character Studies: Encounters with the Curiously Obses
Martin Scorsese is one of the people profiled in a new book by Mark Singer titled "Character Studies: Encounters with the Curiously Obsessed"... about "the odd terrain of the insatiable and their hobbies". Sounds like a GREAT book to me! Here's an excerpt: "I was invited to go to Tokyo with ," he writes of the Japanese-American farm family he covers - and of course he goes. "During the ride from Cipriani to the festival site, the mood aboard Scorsese's water taxi was subdued," he confides to the reader in a profile of the filmmaker. Thank you :) I read the bit about Ricky Jay... sounds very interesting. Judging by the excerpt you posted, it would seem that the section "The Chino's Artful Harvest" would be the one about Scorsese, although "The Man who Forgets Nothing" would suit him perfectly... :P Let's hope he remains "insatiable", as described.

Yeah...I know the book was discussed on the old GONY board. The book was just recently published...July 12, 2005. Thought some people might be interested to know it's available now.

I don't recall the discussion on the Gony board but have placed an order with Amazon. For those interested there are new and used copies available now. Will, sorry but I won't be putting a whole chapter up LOL

MERCI ! :) Big thanks to Treggy for posting it on her website.... always interesting to read Marty's comment about the way he did / dealt with violence/violent scenes (which is for some a -sad and restrictive - summary/resume of his work... There's so much more than that in his films but he chose sometimes to show it, at the first level (through protagonists' points of view), and it shocked some (Those who think they will never be violent / or have violent thoughts ? )... OK... I"m opening....open doors....Anyway... Hope the book will be translated (I'm lazy sometimes)... Thanks Virgo for the thread.
