Revolutionary Road
variety.com DiCaprio, Winslet to star in 'Road' Duo together again for 'Revolutionary' By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are teaming for the first time since "Titanic" to star in DreamWorks' "Revolutionary Road." Sam Mendes will direct the pic, based on the acclaimed 1961 novel by Richard Yates about post-war disillusionment. John N. Hart, Scott Rudin, Bobby Cohen and Mendes, who's married to Winslet, will produce in association with BBC Films. Yates' heart-rending and bleak tome, celebrated for its storytelling style, follows a seemingly happy suburban couple with two children in the mid-1950s who find themselves caught between their true desires and the pressure to conform -- with explosive consequences. Mendes begins lensing this summer from an adapted screenplay by scribe Justin Haythe, said DreamWorks chair-CEO Stacey Snider. Paramount Pictures has worldwide rights. Winslet and DiCaprio have each worked continuously since 1997's "Titanic," but never together. "Road" marks the first time that Mendes has directed either star. DiCaprio most recently starred in "Blood Diamond" and "The Departed," both from Warner Bros. "Road" marks his second DreamWorks project after Steven Spielberg's 2002 "Catch Me if You Can." Winslet also had a busy 2006, starring in "Little Children," a story about modern-day suburban angst, "The Holiday" and "All the King's Men." Mendes has longtime ties to DreamWorks, having directed his first film, "American Beauty," there. He also directed "Road to Perdition" for the studio and is producing two DreamWorks films that will be released later this year, "Things We Lost in the Fire" and "The Kite Runner."

Yeah, I read this today on the news. My first reaction was: Yikes, Sam Mendes is frickin brave! (I wouldn't want to have to direct my wife in a love scene with Leo!) I think this will either be totally awesome or totally terrible. But either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks StormyTeacup. Many months ago, in this board, on another thread i posted these words. "Leo and Kate together again? Sure, why not. But it has to be the right project". So. Let`s hope this is the right project. But, i like facts. So, let`s see the facts for a minute. Sam Mendes: Excellent filmmaker American Beauty: Masterpiece The Road To Perdition: Excellent Jarhead: Very Good Justin Haythe on the other hand, has only The Clearing in his credit. I`ve seen the film. Interesting work, but eventually uneven. The Book: I`m not familiar with it. But i`m reading good things about it. So, let`s hope everyone involved will do their best and deliver something good. No. Let`s hope they deliver something great. But one thing is for sure. When Leo and Kate share the very first moment on-screen, the electricity will be high. No doubt about that.

I am so HAPPY about this film. I read the book awhile back and Kate and Leo are PERFECT for these roles. It is about a married couple, April and Frank Wheeler, who are both 29 years old, and have two kids, a six year old daughter and a four year old son. Maybe Kate's children can play the kids, they are about the right age. It is not a feel good type of book, and the main characters lead very sad lives. In an attempt to find themselves and also save their marriage, they plan on moving to France. In the book, these characters say more with their eyes and facial expressions than with words. And it was Scorsese that said something like Leo's face is a battle ground of emotion and conflict. This role is so suited for him. ArtReborn, I don't think Sam has anything to worry about, because the main characters April and Frank do more fighting and arguing than they do loving each other. From what I remember the hot sex scenes are with OTHER people. I definitely have to pull the book out again and reread it.

Interesting... I'll try and read the book soon just to get the feel for it.

Yeah, I read this today on the news. My first reaction was: Yikes, Sam Mendes is frickin brave! (I wouldn't want to have to direct my wife in a love scene with Leo!) About those sex scenes: Kate Winslet was in the awkward position of shooting a sex scene with her Titantic lover Leonardo DiCaprio in the upcoming film Revolutionary Road – directed by her husband, Sam Mendes. "I just kept saying, 'This is too... weird,'" the actress, 32, told Entertainment Weekly. "And Leo was like, 'Oh, get over it.' And I'm going, 'Yeah, a little reminder: You're my best friend. He's my husband. This is a bit weird.'" But Winslet was pleasantly surprised by the result. "I hadn't realized how much my chemistry with him since Titanic would still stick," she said. "It's great to discover we can just slip right into it, like muscle memory." For his part, Mendes – her husband since 2003 – told the magazine: "I will admit it was quite bizarre to direct my wife in how to make love. But it's difficult whether you're married to a person or not." http://www.usmagazine.com/news-kate-winslet-sex-scene-with-leonardo-dicaprio-was-weird Leo's comments on the scenes: "No more than any other situation like that," DiCaprio said. "Doing those type of scenes is always a bit strange, never mind a husband but an entire crew watching you." http://www.mailtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080907/LIFE/809070305/-1/tempo07
