Scorsese’s American Express ads
I saw Scorsese’s print ad for American Express in a magazine over the weekend. A COOL pic of Marty...sitting alone in a movie theater. And this text: My name – Martin Scorsese Childhood ambition – To get out of where I was Fondest memory – My parents at the premiere of “Mean Streets”, 1973 Indulgence – Clothes Last purchase – 12 pair of socks from Rome, Italy Favorite movie – They Are Legion Inspiration – Other filmmakers My life – Still working on it My card – is American Express I've never heard of "They Are Legion"... & couldn't find any info about a movie by that title. Anyone ever see it or know anything about it? Anyway...I thought it was a COOL ad. Hope some of you get a chance to see it. :lol: 8) :lol:

I don't think it's the name of a film. I think he's saying that there are too many favourites for him to name them - "they are legion".

Oh. Thanks, margot. As in...too many to just pick one favorite. I've never heard of that phrase. Each word was capped so I just assumed it was a title. Guess that's why I couldn't find any info about it. :lol: :oops: :lol:

Thanks, Zilla. That's a little different than the ad I saw in VF. I like Marty's 'wildest dream' 8) & the answer to 'alarm clock'. :lol: The pic is different too. The pic of Marty I saw was more distant... showing more of the movie theater & lots of empty seats around him.

Thanks Arnzilla for Scorsese' handwriting. Interesting. A lot of unjoined up letters too. Suppose you could say he capitalizes what is important to him. PARENTS and MEAN STREETS but then you have CARDBOARD and VITAMIN FACTORY. Maybe it was a tough job!:D

First thanks virgo for sharing Scorsese’s American Express ad from VF. And thanks Arnz for another version. Love the pic of Marty and seeing his replies in his own handwriting is very interesting. I love his responses to ‘Soundtrack’ and I’d love to hear Marty’s own soundtrack! I also liked his reply to ‘Retreat’. Surprises me to know his ‘Indulgence’ is “clothing”.

Thanks Will, It's been playing all week long on late night TV. A couple of other Scorsese sightings this week, in theaters and on DVD: In the new movie "Knocked Up," one character has a bet going with a roommate to see if he can let his beard grow for one year. At various points, they tease him by calling him the "shoebomber," the "unibomber," etc. But early on before he gets too shaggy, they refer to him as "coked-out Scorsese." I also caught "The Holiday" with Cameron, Kate, and Jude. Diaz works as a film editor who wants to end her la-*test*-('") creation with "Coming This Christmas" filling the screen in bold red letters. But she makes it clear that she means festive red, not "Scorsese red."
