And this from Boston Herald about "SI" ..I shall 'stay tuned' :) And speaking of the many, many Hollywood movies filming in the Bay State, word is Martin Scorsese may have done some preliminary shooting in Southie yesterday for “Ashecliffe,” the big-screen version of Dennis Lehane’s “Shutter Island.” Do stay tuned

Peanut80- 02-22-2008

And more from Boston Herald In other Mass. movie news, ‘Ashecliffe’ stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo have landed in town to start work on Martin Scorsese’s film noir. Our stargazing spies spotted the trio exiting the Ritz-Carlton Boston Common Wednesday night. Earlier in the week, Leo and Marty were seen dining at Legal Sea Foods across from the New England Aquarium. Oh, bra-vo!

Lou- 02-22-2008

So they are using the term "film noir".. Interesting ! Thanks Cacahuète. It has started ?

Peanut80- 02-22-2008

Lou From what I've read filming is due to begin aroun March 5th at Whitteton Mills Bldg ( will be concentration camp scenes) in Taunton , Ma Can't wait to see some 'pix' :)

The Boston Globe - February 23, 2008After hours with Scorsese By Carol Beggy and Mark Shanahan Is there anyone more fanatical about film than Martin Scorsese? While in Boston preparing to shoot "Ashecliffe," the celebrated director will be spending his free time watching movies. We're told Scorsese and leading man Leonardo DiCaprio have reached a deal with a few local cinemas to screen movies after hours. Apparently, the pair want to watch spooky genre films (as they did last week at the Harvard Film Archive). Based on Dennis Lehane's book "Shutter Island," "Ashecliffe" is about the hunt for a murderess who has escaped from a mental hospital. The movie, which will be shooting here for four months, stars DiCaprio, Michelle Williams, Mark Ruffalo, and Patricia Clarkson.

Thank you :) Some cast and crew will probably join them. Wish they could tell us what they're watching so I could practice too.

Lou- 02-24-2008

Thanks Arnzilla and Peanut. "After hours films ?". What does it mean ?

Peanut80- 02-24-2008

Arnz Thanks for article :) Will For sure would be great if we could watch with them ...or..as you say...at least watch same films at home :) Lou By after hours...they mean when the theater's regular film showings are over for the night...they would privately screen for them some films Marty has selected..... Wonder if the concession stand will stay open so they can buy some popcorn to eat

Ava- 02-25-2008

That's cool! Like Marty screened "His Girl Friday" for the entire cast of "The Aviator". And separately screened Kate Hepburn films for Cate Blanchett and Ava Gardner films for Kate Beckinsale. I like that he does this. :)

leela- 02-27-2008

Thank you :) Some cast and crew will probably join them. Wish they could tell us what they're watching so I could practice too. Me too. I guess we could start with some Polanski work our way through a 1950's horror fest and finish with ice cream and lots of raspberry sauce

Lou- 02-27-2008

Thanks Peanut. As about "after hours" film, I would screen "Eyes Without a Face" (1959 (?), George Franju directing)... for its fantastic and comorbid psychological themes about "appearance"... Well, that film is more about plastic surgery, and appearance, but it's treated like a film noir by Franju (Thriller built script) and he evokes not only the physical transformation but also what lays behind, the psychologial transformation...and globally the complexity of personalities (doctors & patients are facing). which is, or can be, related to our theme in SI in my mind. It's also """funny""" to notice how "MEDICINE and its powerfull praticians" were seen in 1959s cinema... like they (physicians) were all powerful like Gods... (Another belief) http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=asXcgiF_66s

Lou Thanks for movie info /link... While in the dr's office I read about a PBS special that I missed about one of the leading proponents behind 'lobotomies' years ago... Wished I had gotten to see the show ...tho just seeing the mag photo of the 'ice pick' sticking out of the patient's eye did look very unpleasant
