Will Thanks for info about Stephen Kight as screenwriter Arnz Your comment below means that was the writer who wrote the sceenplay when Wolfgang Peterson was going to do the film ...correct ?? Knight wrote Wolfgang Petersen version

Arnzilla I liked the first Italian book cover it has something of the mood of the book. The second cover is creepy, I like your thinking I can imagine Teddy say: "Sorry Noyce, but clearly I can see your nuts I recently bought a birthday card with a couple of squirrles and something similar written on it. The one with the creepy mansion on it looks like the bad photoshop job I've been wrestling with. Oh, and I wanted to say that I really like the new audio clip... Where does the second part come from? I'm glad Will brought that up I was going to ask you what it was but then suddenly it disappeared and now I can't seem to hear it any more :?

I like this cover: But who the hell is this? I think it's in finnish... and it's pretty in their way way of doing movie posters. Could look like a poster announcing a Bergman's film (though, ok, he's swedish). And umm... Do I say that ? It's a very female.. poster.

Arnz Thanks for article about Wolfgang/etc.. :) But I , for one, hopes that Scorsese stays with the 'open/ambigous' ending

Out of retirement!! :) How you guys doing? I haven't read the novel nor know a lot about the plot (other than the brief synopsis in the news) and I'm not sure what's the catch here for Marty. But after learning about the title, the first connection I made was with a couple of (well-beloved by Marty) Michael Powell's pictures. Here are brief IMDb synopsis of the two: I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING (1945) http://www.impawards.com/1945/i_know_where_im_going.html Joan Webster is an ambitious and stubborn middle-class English woman determined to move forward since her childhood. She meets her father in a fancy restaurant to tell him that she will marry the wealthy middle-aged industrial Robert Bellinger in Kiloran island, in Hebricles, Scotland. She travels from Manchester to the island of Mull, where she stays trapped due to the windy weather. While in the island, she meets Torquil McNeil and along the days they fall in love for each other. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Young middle-class Englishwoman Joan Webster is determined to have the finer things in life, and to that end she plans to marry Sir Robert Bellinger, a wealthy, middle-aged industrialist whom she does not love. En route to the Island of Killoran (mythical), where her future husband resides, Joan is stranded on the nearby island of Mull. Inclement weather keeps her grounded for a week, during which time she falls in love with young, insouciant naval officer Torquil McNeil. Ignoring the dictates of her heart (not to mention common sense), Joan stubbornly insists upon heading out to sea towards her marriage of convenience, but the exigencies of Mother Nature finally convince her that her future resides on Mull. Written by Anonymous THE EDGE OF THE WORLD (1937) http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0028818/posters A trio wanders the cliffs of a Shetland island and encounters a gravestone at the edge of a precipice; it reads, "Peter Manson ... gone over." One man in the trio knows the story of the gravestone and tells it to the others... It is ten years earlier, and the way of life on the island is dying; steam trawlers from the mainland threaten its survival as a fishing port. Peter Manson, one of the community's leaders, resists evacuating to the mainland, though his son Robbie is about to leave the island himself. Meanwhile, Robbie's twin sister plans to marry his best friend, Andrew Gray. Andrew and Robbie argue over evacuation and decide to settle the matter by racing to the top of a cliff. Ruth is terrified: she may lose them both. The race ends in tragedy, which tears apart the families of Manson and Gray. Times passes and Ruth reveals she is pregnant with an illegitimate child. This promises to bring the two families back together, but not before desperation hits the islanders. Evacuation is inevitable. And so is one last tragedy. Written by sspurli What happens when the people of a lonely, windswept island can no longer survive as a community ? This Drama/Documentary examines the hardships of such a life and the decisions they must make, whether to stay where their families have worked & died to establish this hard-working community or to leave and give the next generation a better chance. Partly based on a true story (The evacuation of "Hirta" or "St. Kilda"). Written by Steve Crook {steve@brainstorm.co.uk} Thought I'd share this with you. I wonder if Marty's made this connection in his mind...

Hi Gabriel Can't keep a true fan down huh  I think if you read the book you'd come up with a few more reasons.....

Hi Gabriel, Thanks for the info on Powell's films. Arnzilla, remember this article you posted a while back about Rob Legato? Could it be that the third film they were talking about was Shutter Island?

arnzilla- 12-13-2007

The Lord Chamberlain has returned to the Potala! Welcome back, gabriel. Could it be that the third film they were talking about was Shutter Island?Could be. Hurricanes must be awfully hard to wrangle.

gabriel- 12-14-2007

Oh, yeah... you MUST know what do do, Kundun... how was that? Hey, Peanut, Leela, Will, Arnzilla, Lou... I'm real glad to be back. I've skimmed through those script pages and now I'm thinking... Samuel Fuller's Shock Corridor...

Ava- 12-14-2007

What script pages are you guys talking about? I'm really interested.

arnzilla- 12-14-2007

Ava, check your PM box. The link is right below the big group Oscar logo at the top of the page. Gabriel, the next installment is reminiscent of Bringing Out the Dead crossed with Schindler's List.

What Scorsese said recently about SI: Este thriller es un "buen reto para mí", matizó el cineasta, "porque pienso en las películas de (Roman) Polanski". automatically translated as: This thriller is a "good challenge for me," the filmmaker qualified, "because I think of movies (Roman) Polanski."
