Yay, Polanski! What an exciting connection. Thanks, Will. Remember when Marty stood up to celebrate his Best Director Oscar for The Pianist... I'm really aching to see Polanski's The Ninth Gate, anyone here seen it? Arnzilla, thanks. Yes I could see where the BOTD reminiscence comes from :)

Ava- 12-15-2007

Oh, okay, thank you arnzilla!

arnzilla- 12-16-2007

This thriller is a "good challenge for me," the filmmaker qualified, "because I think of movies (Roman) Polanski." Repulsion's tagline:"The nightmare world of a virgin's dreams becomes the screen's shocking reality!" :P Are we too early for a Shutter Island tagline thread?

Shynney- 12-16-2007

Gabriel I'm really aching to see Polanski's The Ninth Gate, anyone here seen it Yes I've seen it. Got the DVD. With Johnny Depp, one of his best performances maybe. Kind of a believable, unreal film that kept you guessing until the end. Some strange unforgettable characters in it. Can see SI in that genre

gabriel- 12-16-2007

Hi, Shinney, thanks. With Polanski "on board", we got Hitchcock in the bag as well...

leela- 12-16-2007

I've skimmed through those script pages and now I'm thinking... Samuel Fuller's Shock Corridor.. Yes! Me too! And as in Shock Corridor I felt there's something staged and unreal about Ashcliffe. Will Polanski and thrillers, I'll look forward to that. :D Are we too early for a Shutter Island tagline thread? It's never too early The most frightening thing about Teddy Daniel's nightmare is that he isn't dreaming. ....from Jacob's Ladder or Shutter Island where the living haunt the dead.

Shynney- 12-17-2007

Watched Ninth Gate again last night and really enjoyed it again. If SI follows that and a Hitchcock formula it would really hit the mark. Is there any reason the location for filming is listed as Seoul, South Korea on the IMDb Board http://us.imdb.com/title/tt1130884/ ??

Ilaria- 12-18-2007

Hi everybody! This thriller is a "good challenge for me," the filmmaker qualified, "because I think of movies (Roman) Polanski." I thought (hoped) Martin was referring to the old Polanski movies.I'm probably the only one here, but I didn't like The Nineth Gate:the first part was really good but the second one was just awful (ending included). "Knife in the water","The Tenant" and "Rosemary's baby"are masterpieces. So disturbing and creepy.I love the atmosphere (?) Polanski was able to create. I can't wait to see what our Marty will do with Shutter Island (the book is really good). Ps:sorry for my bad english! :D

Peanut80- 12-18-2007

Ilaria Welcome to the board :) Like you I'm not a fan of "Ninth Gate"...but....I am a fan of " Knife in the Water" and "Rosemary's Baby" . Shynney As to IMDB /SI locales....wonder where they got that info from...is that something that posters can just send in and someone thought they were being funny ???

Ilaria- 12-18-2007

Ilaria Welcome to the board :) Thanks Peanut80! :D

Lou- 12-19-2007

Gabriel : Hello amigo... Donde eras ? Nice to see you've bought your ticket again... :-) Thanks for Fuller's flick picture... asylums corridors have always been cinematographic (= good meat for artists). Ilaria : Welcome on board !

leela- 12-23-2007

Hi Illaria and welcome back :D I like the old Polanski horror movies too and I haven't seen the Ninth Gate so I don't have an opinion on that. When his name came up in connection with this my first though was "Tess" Spoiler because she stabs her lover to death

Ilaria- 12-23-2007

Hi Lou and Leela! Thank you very much! :D Leela I haven't seen "Tess" yet,but i definitely will.

will- 01-02-2008

I just saw at an unrelated casting place, that they list the film as "Untitled Martin Scorsese", so maybe they are indeed deciding between "Shutter Island" and "Ashecliff".

arnzilla- 01-02-2008

Will, the Grant Wilfley link you provided on another thread now says the following... Grant Wilfley Casting is opening a satellite office in Boston for an upcoming feature film titled ASHECLIFFE (aka Shutter Island) directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. "You act like insanity is catching" Teddy in SIShynney, is that actually in the book? I can't find it, but I like it a lot.
