Oh la Gabriel !!! ... you're back ! Hey... nice to have you on board for.. maybe.. another cruise... ? You got time ? :) And with you... a spontaneous opinion and comparison... the Black Narcissus (I haven't seen it so... no comment about that particular film). But ... as for sexual tension... wether you've read classic litterature or seen "referenced classic films... you can feel it in all of them... like in SI... that's a recurrent subject, theme... THE interesting point REMAINS the way you want to treat it.

Ça va, Lou? :) Great to see you again too. Regarding sex, Scorsese has always been amused by how some of his movies achieve an adult rating for their "overall sensuality"... It's true, he has probably made some of the more powerfully erotic films in the last decades (Age of Innocence, After Hours, Raging Bull...) but nothing explicit is ever showed in them... It's often more what they suggest than what they show. Doesn't matter which way, however, censors will get to him...

Is there a particularly noticeable sexual tension in it? Yes there's one in particular, Spoiler between Teddy and Rachel Solando. An actress with Kathleen Byron's looks would have made an excellent Rachel. Curiously, Teddy gives this woman the same name as his four year-old daughter. BTW, the novel describes the woman as resembling actress Teresa Wright.

Some news here, i don't know if they were just posted guys ... “Shutter Island,” the Martin Scorsese flick based on Boston man of mystery Dennis Lehane’s best-selling novel, has changed its name. The 1950s-era film noir, which will start shooting in Massachusetts this spring, is now called “Ashecliffe.” Which, as “Shutter Island” devotees may remember, is the name of the mental institution where much of the action takes place. However, in screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis’ script, there’s lots of flashbacks to a World War II concentration camp. Hence, the casting call on Jan. 26 for background extras to play malnourished camp prisoners and military or law-enforcement types to portray the guards. Also, there’s a need for extras to play doctors, nurses and patients at Ashecliffe, according to Grant Wilfley Casting, which has opened a Boston office just for this film. The open call will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Metcalf Hall at Boston University’s Sherman Union. http://www.bostonherald.com/track/inside_track/view.bg?articleid=1067941

Thanks for the news! I really hope they don't change the movie title to Ashecliffe...anyone with me?

Ava- 01-23-2008

I'm with you. I don't see the point in changing the title at all.

arnzilla- 01-23-2008

Ashecliffe is too hard to spell. It's not as bad as Ratatuilleui, but still. :P

Candy- 01-24-2008

I'm not even sure I know how to pronounce it, lol!

Ava- 01-24-2008

I pronounce it like "Ash - Cliff". I could be wrong though.

Ava- 01-24-2008

They just switched the titles to Ashecliffe on IMDb. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130884/

:?

arnzilla- 01-25-2008

Could the change be related to avoiding potential confusion with this film?

will- 01-25-2008

I still don't believe it's changed to Ashecliffe. But if it has, then that could be a reason, along with the one-word-title trend, as well. It's spelled weirdly, too. An "e" after Ash and after Cliff... Usually studios register domain names for a film even before preproduction. So far, only "Shutter Island" related domain names have been registered.

Will Like you... I think they will stay with "SI".... As Lehane's books have done well at boxoffice (Mystic River/Baby Be Gone" ) ...so ..personally...see no reason to dissociate the film from the book Plus......personally...when I hear 'Ashecliffe' I think of 'Heathcliff' and Wuthering Heights or "Jane Eyre" ........rather than a suspenseful psychological thriller But ..as always....time will tell

Lou- 01-25-2008

Will Plus......personally...when I hear 'Ashecliffe' I think of 'Heathcliff' and Wurthering Heights or "Jane Eyre" ........rather than a suspenseful psychological thriller PEANUT !!! Great minds think alike (is that the correct expression ?) because I was just reading this thread and I was having the SAME EXACT REACTION as you. Even with my french accent ! Happy to hear that that sort of almost homophony was not only due to my accent and difficulties to pronounce it ! Cheers Cacahuète ! Fingers crossed they will keep SHUTTER ISLAND title
