As to DiCaprio's two nods.... is a FIRST in GG history
Comment other day from GG guy to L.A Times
In the history of the Globes, no actor or director has been nominated twice in the same category in the same year, Berk said, and although there is no rule forbidding it, he added that he would be shocked if anyone heard his or her name called twice in the same category.

When it comes to the Oscars.....those voters will have to make a choice
As DiCaprio in all the new FYC ads is LEAD for "TD and BD"
So his Oscar nod has to be for a lead actor nod for either "TD" or "BD"
And as always...could be totally wrong...but as I stated on Oscar Talk thread...I think since "TD" has the Oscar 'traction/buzz' that people will nominate him for his lead performance in that role
In their new FYC ads...all the OTHER actor , including Damon, are being campaigned for supporting
yapi- 12-14-2006
but everyone know that if dicaprio made the choice to go supporting for one of the movie, the chances he has to be nominated and actually to win one of the 2 awards are increased.
But if he lets the 2 in the same category, he could cancel himself out.

apparently it's false.
In 1992, Tim Robbins was nominated for both "The Player" and "Bob Roberts" for Best Actor - Musical/Comedy. He won for "The Player".

As to GG quote....just going by what guy said......for sure guy could have been wrong...
And..yes.....I well understand what you are saying that if ONE of DiCaprio's roles had been a 'supporting' role that he could have gotten
a supporting nod/lead nod
But...personally...don't feel that either role was 'supporting'...that Billy and Danny were 'lead' roles
I, also, personally don't see Matt Damon as a 'supporting' role either....

Alas...no...Howard Shore for score :(

I'm really glad for Leo and Marty for their GG noms. But how on earth was Bobby nominated over United 93?! And I would have liked to see Djimon nominated too... oh well, there's still the Oscars...

especially Mr O'Toole. I read once that Lawrence of Arabia was one of the favorites movies of dicaprio (good taste) and I'm sure he was blown away like many of us by the performance gave by O'Toole in that movie.
Just only for that performance I hope O'Toole will win at the oscars.
Dicaprio has time.

Thanks for 'reaction' quotes ....needless to say my reaction was "Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ! " :)

Yes...like you...think Peter O'Toole is excellent actor who has given movie viewers many excellent performances...
Plus....when he first came to the 'forefront' with "Lawrence of Arabia" ...many remarked of his great beauty....
And ...like DiCaprio..he has proven that one can be 'great' looking and a 'great' actor ! :)
A bit more from Mark:
"I was in New York and my agent Ari called me and said 'I think you got nominated' and I said 'you wanna call me back when you know?' He's trying to be more and more like the character on Entourage every day.
Duffy, the police consultant called me to congratulate me. I'm going to take my mother out to dinner. "

and Leo:
"I gotta say it's pretty surprising ... I did not expect two nominations for my work," said the actor, adding that he hopes the publicity will draw more audiences to "Blood Diamond." " 'The Departed' has already had its run for the most part," he said. "It really is one of those situations where I want to get people into 'Blood Diamond.' "

DiCaprio's comments to HR regarding his nod for "TD & BD" DiCaprio's Golden Globe Morning from HR
Leonardo DiCaprio slept soundly in his Los Angeles home next to Ms Peanut and woke up at 8 a.m. when his manager Rick Yorn phoned in the news that he had earned not one but two lead actor noms. Although DiCaprio is a Globes veteran, having already grabbed three best actor nominations (and a win for "The Aviator"), he was still "blown away," he admitted. "It's a great feeling. I'm really proud of both of these movies. I give all the credit to the filmmakers I got to work with. I'm very happy for Marty (Scorsese, director of 'The Departed'). This is hopefully his year." While DiCaprio was "very surprised" to be nominated for both "Departed" and "Blood Diamond," the roles were equally daunting, he said. "Certainly with 'Blood Diamond,' it was challenging taking on a character so unlike me in every way, from halfway around the world, with military experience, dealing with the black-market diamond industry, an African white man in the post-apartheid era," he said. "Going to Africa for that long, being away from home, was very difficult." "Departed" brought different challenges, mostly because of the actors' schedules. "A lot of the actors had to leave to do other projects," he said. "They were all doing separate movies, so I was going into character for two weeks, then letting go and coming back for a day here and a day there. It was hard to maintain focus on that movie." But DiCaprio did enjoy working with fellow nominee Jack Nicholson: "He elevates everyone. Jack is a force of nature; he definitely has his own unique approach. There has only been one Jack in the rich history of cinema."

So Brad's a double-nominee, too. I figured TD would be runner-up in total noms, but expected #1 to be Dreamgirls, not Babel. The Wahlberg nom was a pleasant surprise, fulfilling the promise from those first reviews that singled out his performance.
Harry Knowles on the GG noms:
Hey folks, Harry here... I'm not a big fan of the GOLDEN GLOBES, but I've always liked their division between Dramatic and Comedy/Musical in their award categories. I just wish they also had a Horror/Suspense category as well. The DRAMATIC category is a little lacking this year to me. The only film there that I feel is one that I'll watch over and over - throughout the years is THE DEPARTED.
