The London Film Critics Circle nominated The Departed in three categories: British Producer, Director and Film. London critics favor 'Queen' Frears pic grabs seven nominations LONDON — Hometown favorites "United 93" and "The Queen" are vying with "The Departed," "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Volver" for the film of the year award from the London Film Critics Circle. "The Queen" led the nominations with seven, followed by "The Last King of Scotland" with five. But the London critics spread their kudos far and wide. As well as nominating several of this year's Oscar front runners, they also bestowed multiple nods on dark horses such as "The Prestige" (four) and "Children of Men" (three), and on low-budget Brit pics including "Red Road" (four), "London to Brighton" (three) and "Pierrepoint" (three). They even found time for some of last year's Oscar contenders, such as "Capote" and "Good Night, and Good Luck," which qualified because their U.K. release fell in 2006. Judi Dench ("Notes on a Scandal") and Helen Mirren ("The Queen") were both nominated twice, for British actress and actress. The award ceremony takes place on Feb. 8. British producer Paul Greengrass, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, "United 93" Al Clark, Ken Marshall, Rachel Robey, Paul Andrew Williams, "London to Brighton" Lisa Bryer, Andrea Calderwood, Charles Steel, "The Last King of Scotland" Rebecca O'Brien, "The Wind that Shakes the Bar-ley" Graham King, "The Departed" .................. I figured TD would be runner-up in total noms, but expected #1 to be Dreamgirls, not Babel. Yes, Dreamgirls missed out on three categories, that were pretty much guaranteed before the announcement.

Thanks Will and Arnzilla. Exciting news about the Golden Globe noms. It seems as if The Departed is one of the best films on everyone's list. :D I hope it can keep going.

margot122- 12-16-2006

Good to see "The Proposition" in there!

Shynney- 12-16-2006

Margot Good to see "The Proposition" in there! Saw Proposition a few weeks ago Margot and really enjoyed it. Ray Winstone did an amazing job as that rather unhinged man, torn between doing the right thing and what people expected of him. He really is capable of playing different types of people isn't he? Didn't recognize Danny Huston until right at the end. He really became his character too. Quite a film!

Peanut80- 12-16-2006

Margot and Shynney Yes...glad to see "Proposition" on list as well....thought Ray...Guy Pearce ..and Danny Houston all did a great job !

Thanks, arnzilla The Departed going in with few nominations and actually winning drama says a lot. But Marty losing...

Peanut80- 12-18-2006

Arnz Thanks for Satellite award results :) Naturally very happy for "TD/DiCaprio/Monahan/Ensemble win....but where ..oh where is Scorsese !!!! Exactly whose DIRECTION guided the film, DiCaprio and cast to excellence ???? Was very unhappy to see him not win plus I needed nausea pills when I saw the winner was Eastwood :x

StormyTeacup- 12-18-2006

Congrats to Leo (supporting??), Monahan and the cast 8) 8) but bummer for Scorsese :( :( thanks Arnzilla :) :)

Peanut80- 12-18-2006

Stormy The Satelitte group nods were announced early on when some thought that Warners would be pushing all of "TD" cast for 'supporting' ..as Nicholson was also nominated for supporting Thus DiCaprio got TWO NODS ( as he has done for GG/BFCA ) but they placed him in Lead for "BD" and Supporting for "TD"
