Pleeze.....shouldn't they have been an advisory to take 'nausea medicine' before viewing that photo !

Thanks for your reply. As I said earlier my friend and I liked the film....whereas ...others I've talked to didn't like it at all....so I would say we both came away with a better perception of film than they had but neither one of us thinks it deserves "Best Pic" of year honors...
As to "Letters".....may be an excellent film...but at this pt in time the "Eastwood connection' has made me have no desire to see it...as I can still see him mumbling to himself as he stood up at BFCA awards when Scorsese's name was announced..
As to "BD"....liked it VERY much.. but if it came down to a vote between the two would have to vote for "TD"

Please don’t let my negative review of Babel stop you from seeing this film. I always enjoy the award shows more when I have seen all the films.
My husband wanted to go see The Good Shepherd, but since Babel had just won the Golden Globe, I wanted to go see it, to see what all the fuss was about.
I think The Arizona Republic's movie critic, Bill Muller sums up Babel the best, he says, “If Babel is to work, we have to care about these characters and suffer alongside them.” I could not agree more with what he says, and that is why Babel did not work for me.
I just did not care about these characters in Babel like I thought I would, except for the Moroccan kids. Maybe, because there are so many characters and not enough time is spent developing each of their characters fully.
Anyways, I suffered alongside the characters in Blood Diamond and United 93 a whole lot more. Heck, I even suffered more alongside the characters in The Devil Wears Prada.
I just saw Blood Diamond again today, and that movie just keeps getting better and better each time I see it. I am going to see The Departed tomorrow. LIFE IS GOOD!

The la-*test*-('") Letters from Iwo Jima TV adverts are quite amusing. In one, the narrator intones "Winner of the Critics Choice award for Best Picture." Didn't The Departed win that?

As to BFCA ...the commercial SEEMS to forget it was the winner of best FOREIGN film ....
Tho I'm sure we both know that was not an 'innocent mistake' on their part ..
Also wanted to ask....with "TD's" re release ....has anyone seen any tv advertisements for the film touting its Oscar nods /BFCA win :?: :?:

They made the same mistake, regarding their Golden Globe nominations, with their some of their FYC ads. An example (Warning: the image contains an Eastwood).
lena- 01-26-2007
It's the same as when they describe Ben Affleck as Oscar winning actor, which he is technically but he won for screenwriting, not acting .

Lena,
that one gets to me every time.
Nothing from the Sound Editors today... Very surprising since they nominated quite a few films:

Do we know if anyone is going to the SAG awards? Probably Leo. Maybe even Mark, since he should start being more visible now. It would be nice if they all went...
lena- 01-26-2007
Will, would be nice if they all appeared since they are up for the ensemble. Don't know about Leo - appears he is in Europe currently for the Blood Diamond (the OTHER movie) promos. Spain today. But most likely he will be there Sunday, jet lagged and all. Fingers crossed for all the noms.

Oh, yeah that other movie... grrrr
I hope they have a 'Departed' table. I remember at least two actors from a film have to be there, to present the clip.
ArtReborn- 01-26-2007
Peanut: TD and BD are such different films its hard to compare them or pick one as better, but because BD has a story with such an importance to it, I would call that best pic over TD... but both are outstanding in visuals and performances...
As for Letters, I plan on seeing it, but at this point I really feel like if you've seen one Clint film, you've seen 'em all.
az_sun: Seems strange that gifted actors such as Brad and Cate aren't able to make you care about the characters. Are they really unlikable people in it? That's weird. You'd think the filmmakers would have tried to make them likable. Hmm.. I will still see it though. As soon as I can - definitely before Oscar night.

I do so appreciate the 'warning' :)
As to SAGS.....would hope that as many of them as possible would be there ....even if DiCaprio was the only one to get an individual nod from SAG for "TD" ...
Figure Sheen will be there .....but then he might be sitting with "Bobby" table since that ensemble is also nominated
Do know that at BFCA awards...that 'TD" was nominated for ensemble but the the only two actors there were DiCaprio ( who since he was also nominated for BD sat at their table ) and Sheen ( who I guess sat with Bobby table since Bobby was nominated for ensemble and his son directed it )

Thanks for more input about BD/TD...agree with your comments about outstanding visuals /acting in BOTH "TD/BD"
Will
Isn't this below the list of the Sound nominees....aren't they just today announcing the NODS not the winners ??? The winners are not known to Feb 24th
And just as with the Oscar nods....no nod for "TD" but nods for "BD"

PeanutMy apologise for showing Clint full frontal like that, you're right he should come with a health warning.

That's a very sneaky FYC add. Are they allowed to say "Best picture" without mentioning the foreign catagory.... :?
So far the only best pic nominee I've seen is The Departed so obviously I'm a bit biased. I'd like to see Babel but it's not showing in many theatres as it's has an art house tag and poor reviews to over come.

Peanut,
yes these are the nominees. They were announced today.
Leela,
I think they may have some kind of text in the middle of the line, but it's super tiny. Even if they do though, the two categories that are considered Best Picture at the Globes are the Drama and the Musical/Comedy ones. Not the foreign language or the animated ones.
I've managed to see Babel, Little Miss Sunshine and the Queen, and I enjoyed the last two. Babel is not my kind of film I suppose. All three are ( objectively speaking 8) ) nowhere near The Departed's level in terms of overall filmmaking quality.

It's all in the small print then

I'm going to have a hard time overcoming my bias towards The Departed. I did like Amores Perros and 21 Grams but I have been a bit put off by the awful reviews for Babel. I missed Little Miss Sunshine here and as for The Queen I think Helen Mirren is great but the subject matter puts me off. One to see on DVD I think
