Thanks for Irish Film & Television Award info and pictures of Monahan with his WGA.
Congrats to DiCaprio and Monahan!
Good luck to Thelma for the ACE!

Thanks for all the news.
I did watch some of the BAFTAS but without Stephen Fry as MC something was sadly missing - not only awards TD etc.
And is anyone else nervous about watching many hours of Ellen Degeneres hosting the Oscars? Her voice is a little harsh to my ears but Iknow I'll put myself through it anyway!

Agree with you Margot about Stephen Fry. Somehow Jonathan Ross was no substitute to the whit and character of Stephen Fry and the BAFTAS seemed a rather tedious affair this year. Hope they find someone else next year.

I knew it was going to be dull as soon as it started. I gave up half way through and looked up the results on line. Very few nominees turned up, as if they knew the results beforehand. It seemed obvious Mirren and Whittaker would win because no one else was there. Nearly all the awards went to British movies or those involved in making them.
There are those who think the BAFTAs should be about celebrating British movies and those who want them to be a precursor to the Oscars. Unfortunately I don't think they can be both.
Forget the BAFTA's I'm supporting the Bill and the WGA :D
DEPARTED WINS BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY AT WGA !!

Do you think that perhaps the people were told ahead of time ??? As it seemed like almost all the cotenders were there when "TD" won back in 2005 . Wonder if maybe they changed their policy and winners are told in advance. For as you say wasn't only TD group that wasn't there

Also noticed that Judi Dench announced she is not coming to Oscars

Well I hope not! But I think they might have guessed how it would go.
Mirren and Whittaker were widely tipped to take the leading role awards, and a clean sweep was predicted for British movies in all the major catagories. The press are now saying that the biggest surprise was that it didn't happen and that Little Miss Sunshine took two awards. The fact that Notes on A Scandal was completely passed over by the BAFTAs is seen as very damaging for it's chances at the Oscars. I suppose this is why Judi Dench has decided not to go.

Finally, I didn't watch the BAFTAS (I was a bit sick and went to bed early) and I'm glad I didn't wait for them on BBC. And after reading - that's another disappointment - that Stephen Fry was not the MC I don't regret not watching the ceremony.
No comment to add about the coming Oscars !

Scorsese won the Calvin for Best Director. Maybe I should add that to his total just so he can finish with an even 20 awards.

Thanks for your response ....yes ..for sure all figured that once again Mirren/Whitaker /Hudson would win...only difference Murphy wasn't nominated so we knew there would be at least someone different for supporting...tho I sure would have gone with Nicholson over Arkin :)
Lena
Thanks for Calvin Awards link :)

Yes..we do like to see our tally numbers increase !!! :)
Thank you again and thank you for the Calvins.
Wow - I pretty much know how the Oscars will go but I love all the "little" awards along the way.

I'm all for that

This feels like the dullest and most predicatable awards season for a long time. I'm can only hope the Oscars turn out to be full of the most wonderful surprises otherwise I don't think I'll be able to stay awake.

Thanks for the Calvins - good stuff!
I guess the Oscars are a foregone conclusion but having seen Forest and Helen - well - it's a done deal I think? Leo is wonderful - subtle but not playing a "real " person and Forest gets inside Idi like no-one would want to go!
Helen plays QE11 so well. I guess you have to be part of the Commonwealth and share her name as your middle name to get the connection.
But I hold out sincere hope for Scorsese! Long live the King!

Oh God - sorry for the sort of double post!
