Mantas : The role of whitaker is a supporting one but he goes lead. why dicaprio could not do the reverse thing ? I heard that clooney was lead in syriana but end up winning the oscar last year in the best supporting category. in training day : denzel was supporting, hawk was lead but they reverse the thing for the oscar. why dicaprio couldn't do it the same ? Clooney was the best part of the film and had some pretty weak competition. Leo is in a movie which has 3 other male performances as good or better then his. If it came down to Murphy vs Nicholson vs Dicaprio, Leo has no chance. He has an outside chance in Best Actor if AMPAS loves the film. In other news Marty wins his third best director from the Washington DC critics, United 93 takes picture, and well the Actor and Actress go to Whittaker and Mirren respectivly.

yeah, Leo will be doing good to get a nom this year. I do think he has more actor's love (who will do the nominating) than critics' love anyhow. But he's making a little headway there, too.

Yapi One only need to read the numerous "TD" reviews posted her to see the many critical raves for DiCaprio's lead performance in "TD" Plus surf any Oscar blogger site and you will see he is consistently listed at one of the top 5 choices for Lead Actor So personally I would prefer to see DiCaprio compete ..win or lose..for his critically touted lead performance in "TD" than switch to another category just to try to increase his chances of winning ...

josephc- 12-10-2006

I'd love to see him nominated for TD, but that's about it. If he won, I'd be thrilled, but I really don't think it's his time yet. I'd be overjoyed to see Whitaker or O'Toole take it this year -- both are waaaay overdue.

Tom O'Neil says that TD "placed third in a few races, including screenplay and supporting actor" in the LA film critics awards. In other news Marty wins his third best director from the Washington DC critics, United 93 takes picture, and well the Actor and Actress go to Whittaker and Mirren respectivly. Here's the complete list. Any chance you could make one for the board like our snail-o-meter for the release date. Then we'd be able to see how it's doing at a glance. :wink:The board's format won't let me put all the awards up there. Bookmark this page for a good awards chart.

So personally I would prefer to see DiCaprio compete ..win or lose..for his critically touted lead performance in "TD" than switch to another category just to try to increase his chances of winning ... I agree. To me, Leo was the main lead in TD and I wouldn't want him to be promoted as supporting just so he could possibly win something. That would be cheesy IMO.

I never liked category cheating and I wouldn't want Leo or anyone from The Departed to be involved in such a situation. Mantas, Arnzilla thanks for more awards and nominations... :D

I think Marty won...! Yeah, he did :D :D :D

Mantas- 12-11-2006

The good thing is that Marty has swept most of the Director awards so far, there hasn't been this much excitement for his film since Goodfellas. I really think he'll get that naked bald man as well now.
