The kid’s head is down, eyes averted, but he can’t resist a sideways glance as the menacing, charismatic man in conspicuous shades and loud clothes pauses to direct a lewd comment at the owner’s teenage daughter. She grimaces before breaking into a coy smile."Do you mind if I put my arm around you?" 8) Will, that 4-star Berardinelli rating is shared by only one film this year. Can you guess which?

Abstract Like you saw the "TD" promo with critic comments....discussed it with Will on another thread...and that is WHY on Time Review thread I was confused as to why the Time Review was done by Corliss and not Shickel.. As I said in that discussion sure hope at some pt we do get to read ALL of Shickel's "TD" review !!! Sky Thanks for alert to Sunday NY Times ad ..will look for Sunday edition at local newstand Arnz What is the "M" word :?:

Saw the TV ad again with the critics' quotes. The TIME mags Richard Schickel's quote they used was "stirs the souls of those who still treasure movies"

Speaking of the big boys, will the LA Times and NY Times come out on Friday?Scorsese/Dicaprio haven't had good karma with those papers. The NY TIMES critic (one of them) used to be at LA Times when the Aviator came out (Manola D) and she gave it a so so review.

arnzilla- 10-03-2006

Yep, Friday. Fingers-crossed on Turan and Dargis. As much as I enjoy a well-written review, I'm getting a kick out of reading screening reports from regular Joes and Jills. This one from IMDb struck my fancy: Let me say this... I saw this as a sneak-preview in Salt Lake City and let me tell ya, during the last-third of the movie towards the climax, there was a moment that (No Lie) Everybody in the theater "GASPED" in shock and disbelief (me included). ABOSOLUTELY, DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THE ENDING OF THIS MOVIE!!! I can only give you a teaser to say that: "If you think what's GOING to happen, WILL happen, but WON'T HAPPEN - But WHEN it DOES HAPPEN... DAYYYYUUM!!!" It will be one of those great "Oh S#!T" or "Oh FAWK" moments! Not quite on the level of "The Crying Game", but the suspense and tension WILL be worth it! If you like crime dramas, with tension AND suspense? You WILL love or at least like this movie!

Vera needed a rave, so here ya go.

Peanut80- 10-03-2006

Arnz Agree...great quote... :) Thanks for excerpt praising Vera and explaining the "M" word :) Excerpt from part interview/review from Niagara paper http://www.niagarafallsreporter.com/calleri10.3.06.html Under Scorsese's expert guidance, "The Departed" takes "duplicitous" to new heights. If anyone attempts to tell you the surprise ending before you've seen the movie, warn them that turncoat friends can quickly be forgotten. That's not unlike the world the director creates in what is one of his best and most startling films.

lena- 10-03-2006

Love the quote of the year, arnzilla! You know she seriously loved the movie because childbirth is one of the most painful things in life to go through
