Also, Monahan suggests that Ellerby might have been under the influence of regular coke during his "sweating" scene.   Peanut~ Ah, yes, can well imagine you and Mr. French getting along famously. Right back atcha...would love to share a drink at the bar with you! Interesting that in this version of the script, after Billy makes his bones he gets his cousin out of harm's way. It's reminiscent of Amsterdam telling Johnny to "Get out of the Points, and don't come back."

Nota Yes....that's right...hadn't thought about the Amsterdam/Johnny connection when I first read that info :) Interesting that in this version of the script, after Billy makes his bones he gets his cousin out of harm's way. It's reminiscent of Amsterdam telling Johnny to "Get out of the Points, and don't come back." Hellcat As you well know I have no computer knowledge...just know the script file opens up instantly for me....hppe someone can help you figure out what you need to do

What do I open it with? Everything I try doesn't work? Do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer? Here's a way you can work around the problem: Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_onlinetools.html and type in http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/departed.pdf in the URL box. I've been skimming a little each day. I just noticed that The Chinese Triads speak English and the head guy's name is Yan. I think this is the first draft because some things are rather sloppy. Monahan typed "Young Connelly" once when he meant to type "Young Costello." But an even bigger error is that he inexplicably has Dignam in the police station when Colin comes back the hero from the shootout. It's Dignam, not Brown, who points out Billy in Colin's office. Why would Billy go to Colin and not straight to Dignam since he's there and available? Monahan also makes it clear that Colin is indeed crying at the door to his apartment and also explains why Billy might have suggested to Costello about the possibility that he still might have a tail.

But an even bigger error is that he inexplicably has Dignam in the police station when Colin comes back the hero from the shootout. It's Dignam, not Brown, who points out Billy in Colin's office. Why would Billy go to Colin and not straight to Dignam since he's there and available? arnzilla~ I don't know that that is an error, at least as far as this version is concerned. At Page 103, after the fight with Dignam, Colin tells Frank over the phone that he (Colin) is now in charge of everything, including Queenan's informers. On the next page, Dignam is leaving the building for his leave of absence while Colin is calling Billy on Queenan's cell phone (Dignam does not see Colin using Queenan's cell). When they talk on the cell, Colin tells Billy that Dignam is on a leave of absence and that he (Colin) is an Inspector and has taken over Queenan's department. He also tells Billy that the two of them have to join forces to bring down Costello. I think it's implied that Colin has actually been promoted and is in charge of Queenan's department. When Billy does come in, he is waiting for Colin in Queenan's old office. At that point, as far as Billy is concerned, Colin is Queenan's replacement; i.e., his boss, so that's who he's there to speak with. Also, I think it could be explained that Colin's been his only contact since Queenan's death, and since Dignam was always such a prick to him, he'd rather talk to Colin. As to why Dignam is there, I guess we could assume that he came in for the "victory celebration". What doesn't make sense with this version is that as soon as Billy saw the envelope on Colin's desk, with Dignam in the building, all he would have had to do is talk to Dignam and that would have been it...story over. So I guess that's why it had to be changed. Also with this version, Billy does not ask Brown where Dignam is when they are up on the roof, nor does he give an envelope to Madolyn. He's even more of a lone wolf in this version, and he seems to forget all about Dignam. Although, the end of this version makes it crystal clear that Dignam did not forget about Billy, even though he didn't like him. :) hellcat maggie~glad it works for you now!

Peanut80- 11-18-2006

Hellcat Glad it is now working for you :) Arnz Yes....agree rough draft.....such as having Queenan's death identical to Wong's =falling on top of cab... Having Billy 'text message morse code' And...yes...in this version they do say that Colin emotionally breaks down at his front door.... And they do say that when Billy told him that they might be a second tail he was feeling somewhat guilty..... And gosh was so much more conversation between the two in those final moments....about his believing Billy was not the rat.... starting Billy up in his own business....but then again lots of that tied into Billy being ..in this version... his 'godson'..etc As I said earlier....personally for me.....I prefer the version that is up on the screen....even if it meant my 'cameo' appearance and seeing Billy naked was left out

I just noticed that The Departed screenplay has been removed from the Daily Script web site. The link does not work anymore, and you can't find the screenplay by going to the web site www.dailyscript.com Does anyone know why they would remove it from their web site?

Peanut80- 11-26-2006

Az _ sun Yuk......see what you mean...didn't want to print off all 142 pages so counted on the link being there...

arnzilla- 11-26-2006

Let me know and I can pass along the PDF file to those who haven't saved it. BTW, is this board's formatting appearing as screwy to anyone else?

will- 11-27-2006

BTW, is this board's formatting appearing as screwy to anyone else? Yes, checked it both with Firefox and Explorer. But only on a couple of topics - not everywhere. Can you try and check the posts on this page, to see if there are any unnecessary < quote > or < /quote > tags left?
