Conan gave Marty a hard time about spilling the beans about a particular character's fate. So Marty goes something like "no, no maybe I was lying... no I wasn't."
Conan said he stood up several times during the private screening and held his head in commiseration with the Boston-Irish experience. "YES! YES!" he would say to the screen.
Marty talked about watching Road Runner and Tom & Jerry cartoons with his daughter Francesca and how she likes to imitate Joe Pesci from Casino. No, she didn't see the film, but she likes to imitate her father's imitation of Nicky from the vise scene. "Don't make me be the bad guy" she's fond of saying to her dog Desmond.

That's a good sign Conan really liked it since he's from Boston. Peanut, did he single out LD specifically for praise? btw, after the NY premiere, on the Regis and Kelly morning show, Regis talked about the premiere and screening which he attended and he singled out LD, saying what a terrific actor he was and Kelly Ripa (who hadn't seen it yet) said he was underrated as an actor, hard to believe he hadn't won an Oscar yet.

Abstract
In the beginning conversation Conan did remark about what an outstanding cast is in the film...has to be one of the great cast of all time...
But after the table scene clip between Billy/Costello ends we hear Conan comment about DiCaprio.....he says "He's great..DiCaprio is fantastic"
Was taping it so easy to replay and hear exactly what Conan said :)
Then Marty talks about how they shot the scene with two cameras so that you are seeing DiCaprio's reaction to what Jack is saying at the moment he is saying it...and then talks about after the scene in the clip Jack's character has some suprises for DiCaprio's character....that DiCaprio didn't expect nor did he ...
And at that pt then Conan says 'Yes, I remember the scene you are talking about but we don't want to give anything away...and then he kids Marty "not that you gave anything away "....alluding to Marty's earlier plot slip ...
And then Conan starts kidding that there is no violence in the film...just some pillow fights,etc...
Was good interview...Conan was very funny and had Marty in stitches..
And..yes....I saw same Regis show as you..well remember his praise for DiCaprio and Kelly's remarks :)

Marty on Conan GREAT show last night!
I always LOVE Scorsese's interviews...with anyone.
Conan's really funny sometimes & this was a real good interview.
Since nobody's mentioned it yet...
I Loved Marty talking about being in the seminary & it made such an impact in his Life & it's stayed with him so much that the iconic religious images seem to always be in his movies.
Apparently there's a scene of Costello in the warehouse...
it's an overhead shot of Costello lying back & his arms are outstretched as if he's on a cross.
Marty compared it to Jake LaMotta with his arms outstretched across the ropes of the boxing ring.
Just overall...a very COOL show last night.
I LOVED the way Marty referred to his daughter Francesca as "the kid".
Thought that was very funny & LOVED the line that Marty said he used a lot on the TD set that his daughter also picked up...
"Okay you mugs, let's go." 8)

I think it's especially significant that he used this shot at that particular moment.
Peanut,
thanks for the Ellen alert. I wish someone would actually turn up in her show for an interview.

Tom "Goldderby" O'Neill weighs in:
Finally saw it yesterday. It's good, but it's kind of obvious plotting and heavy-mugging acting. It's not brilliant. People are getting carried away with the hormonal macho rush and the A-Listers up there. The movie is really just 2 and a half hours of 'I'll get you, you ****!' 'Oh, yeah, I'll kick your ass, pansy-ass!' BOOM BOOM BANG BANG 'Are you the rat within our ranks?' POW PUNCH -- BANG -- over and over and over. It's nice entertainment, but quickly forgettable. Everybody's overselling this, getting caught up in the hype. Don't fall for it. Expect a good solid entertainment, you won't be disappointed and you'll enjoy it.
Falling into the Jeffrey Wells mold, more or less.

Regarding your comment below
I think it's especially significant that he used this shot at that particular moment.
As I mentioned in my earlier post.... Scorsese was talking about the scene where * dies and he said they were shooting in warehouse with all these large barrels...that they had been shooting for ours....shooting scenes using different camera angles...and Jack was sitting on the barrels ..leaning back ..and at one pt he fell back off the barrels...and when they looked at him on the floor...he told him "Okay, Marty, now you can shoot your favorite scene....and he said at first he didn't know what Jack was talking about ..and then he realized he does have the 'Jesus stretched out on cross' in all of his movies....plus..he realized that Jack had chkd out his other movies..remembered the scene of Jake stretched across the ropes...
As to Ellen
Yes.....have no idea what that segment will involve....and..yes...would have like to see a live interview with one of the cast.. :)

Well...no BIG deal really.
In fact, I think Marty givin' that part up may get even more people to wabt to see TD!

Yeah. I definitely agree about that particular shot at that particular moment.
I didn't get the impression that Scorsese was implying that Jack's Costello was an 'imitation' of Jake LaMotta.
Just that's it's the same powerful religious images that have stayed with him through the years & he can't help but include those iconic images in his work.

Alec Baldwin showed a new clip on Letterman tonight. Ellerby narrates a slide show as a kind of stand-up comedy routine, identifying Costello and his crew to his SIU crew. First up is Billy's late uncle Jack Costigan: a pic of Graham King. Then Fitzy, Delahunt, a mugshot of a clean-shaven French, and finally Costello. Letterman seemed to have loved the film.
Baldwin talked a bit about The Good Shepherd, too. He and Damon couldn't believe they were actually in a film with Robert De Niro. Damon would point to De Niro between takes and look at Baldwin, exclaiming something like "it's really him!" Then Baldwin did a great De Niro impression giving him the same direction 20x in a row: "That was good, Alec. Now can you speak just a little bit lower?" Alec said that he finally just moved his lips.

speaking of Letterman, on tonights show his Top Ten was Top Ten Signs of a Bad Mafia Movie and before he started reading off the list he said there have been some great Mafia = gang movies, and he mentioned The Departed, and reeled off the names DiCaprio Nicholson Damon...said it was a great movie.
